Chicago Crush Premier Battle Hard but Succumb to Dells Ducks in Final Showcase Showdown

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich.- The Chicago Crush Premier squad wrapped up their run at the 2023 USPHL Detroit Showcase in a faceoff against the Dells Ducks, and what a game it was. The atmosphere at Mount Clemens Ice Arena was electric, with fans on the edge of their seats for every heart-pounding moment.

The first period set the stage for an intense matchup. Chicago's Ryan Hammer got the crowd roaring with a goal at 17:57, assisted by Capt. Nick Zehelein. However, the Dells Ducks answered back just before the buzzer, tying the game at 1-1 with Ashot Davtyan's goal at 19:20.


The second period saw the Ducks gaining momentum, especially on the power play. Lucas Epperson's goal at 9:19, with assists from Austin Plumert and Reece Atkins, put the Ducks in the lead. Despite the Crush's efforts, they couldn't find the back of the net, heading into the final period trailing 2-1.

The third period was a nail-biter as the Crush fought tooth and nail to level the score. The Ducks' defense held strong, and with an empty net and a power play in their favor, John Scott sealed the deal for the Ducks at 18:42. The Crush couldn't stage a comeback, and the game ended with a 3-1 victory for the Dells Ducks.


Penalties added an extra layer of intensity to the game, with Spencer Kauke and Capt. Nick Zehelein serving time in the box for the Crush. The Ducks faced penalties as well, but their penalty-killing unit proved formidable.

In the goaltending duel, Kyle Tyszkiewicz stood tall for the Crush, making 34 saves, but Christopher Mazurek's 37 saves for the Ducks secured the win.


As the final buzzer sounded, the Crush reflected on their performance at the USPHL Detroit Showcase. While the loss stings, the team showed resilience and determination, qualities that will undoubtedly fuel them as they navigate the rest of the USPHL season.
