Chicago Crush Premier Overpower Decatur Blaze in Dominant Victory

DECATUR, Ill.- In a heated divisional clash at the Decatur Civic Center, the Chicago Crush Premier unit showcased their offensive skills, securing a convincing 7-1 victory over the Decatur Blaze. The atmosphere was electric, with both teams looking to assert their dominance in the USPHL.

The first period set the tone for the Crush, with Decatur striking first blood at 12:37 with a goal from Everett King. However, Chicago quickly responded, scoring three unanswered goals before the period concluded. Gavyn Polomchak netted his first goal of the season and the equalizer at 17:02, followed by Ryan Hammer at 19:10 and Caden Day at 19:31. The Crush left the ice at the end of the first period with a 3-1 lead.


The second period saw Chicago extend their lead as Capt. Nick Zehelein found the back of the net at 10:35. Despite the Blaze's efforts, the Crush defense held firm, maintaining their 4-1 lead heading into the final frame.


The third period turned into a showcase of the Crush's offensive prowess. Caden Day notched his second goal of the night at 6:39, and Ryan Hammer added another at 9:10. Conor Heniff joined the scoring frenzy at 9:35, sealing the 7-1 victory for the Crush.


The game was not only defined by goals but also by a series of penalties and physical play, highlighting the intense rivalry between the two teams. The penalty box saw a flurry of activity, with both squads engaging in spirited battles. The Crush's penalty kill unit proved effective, limiting the Blaze's power play opportunities.

Chicago's goaltender, Andrew Young, showcased his skills with 20 saves out of 21 shots, while the Crush dominated the shot count with 59 attempts on goal. Wyatt Gottschall faced a barrage of shots for the Blaze, making 52 saves but ultimately succumbing to the Crush's offensive onslaught.


The victory solidifies the Crush's position at the top of the division, boasting a season record of 15-5-2-0. Meanwhile, the Blaze continue to face challenges with a record of 5-19-1-0.


As the final buzzer sounded, signaling the end of this thrilling matchup, the Chicago Crush now head into a well-deserved Holiday Break. Fans, take note that the Crush will be recharging and gearing up for their next showdown against crosstown rivals, the Chicago Cougars, at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, IL.
