Crush and Cougars Clash in Overtime Thriller: Chicago Crush Premier Edged in Nail-Biting Shootout

ADDISON, Ill.- In a heart-pounding clash at the Addison Ice Arena, the Chicago Crush Premier unit faced off against their divisional rivals, the Chicago Cougars, in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end. Despite a spirited effort from the Crush, they fell short in a thrilling shootout, resulting in a narrow 4-3 loss.


The Cougars set the pace early in the first period, with Nikolay Ouriashev opening the scoring at 3:54, assisted by Arthur Pawlik and TJ Haas. Frank Kula added to the Cougars' lead at 15:09, putting the Crush in a challenging position.

Undeterred, the Crush fought back in the second period, with Sam Barnitz capitalizing on a power play at 8:54, assisted by Ryan Hammer and Caden Day. The goal injected new life into the team, but they still trailed 2-1 as they headed into the final frame.


The third period showcased the resilience of the Crush, as Caden Day leveled the score at 3:03, assisted by Ryan Hammer and Brennan Cazel. Logan Fernandes then gave the Crush a brief lead at 8:56, with Owen Rycerz providing the assist. However, the Cougars responded, and Landon Edwards tied the game at 10:49.


With the score deadlocked at 3-3, the teams battled through overtime, but neither side could find the game-winner. The fate of the game was ultimately decided in a dramatic shootout.

In the shootout, the Cougars' Aidan Canady secured the lone goal, while the Crush's Ryan Hammer, Sam Barnitz, and Spencer Kauke were unable to beat Cougars' goaltender Bennett Pieters. Despite the shootout loss, goaltender Jack Sundhall's 38 saves showcased his resilience and determination throughout the game.

While this loss stings, the Crush demonstrated their ability to compete against a formidable opponent. As they look ahead, the team aims to learn from this experience and bounce back stronger in the upcoming games. The battle against the Cougars may be over for now, but the Crush will be eager for redemption when they face their crosstown rivals in future showdowns.
