WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis.- In an exciting rematch at the South Wood County Recreation Center, the Chicago Crush Premier squad faced off against the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings for the second game of a weekend series. The previous night's game saw the Crush secure a hard-fought victory in overtime, but the tides turned on this occasion, resulting in a 5-2 road loss for Chicago.
The first period set the tone for the game, with the Riverkings taking an early lead at 17:14, courtesy of Shawn LeComte, assisted by Owen Tutich and Luke Hill. The Crush struggled to find the back of the net in the opening frame, and penalties added an extra layer of challenge.
Moving into the second period, Spencer Kauke of the Chicago Crush managed to break through, leveling the score at 1-1 with an assist from Peter White at 1:32. However, the Riverkings responded with three goals of their own, including power-play goals from David Csemi and Joel Texmo, securing a 4-1 lead by the end of the second period.
The final period saw continued intensity as the Riverkings extended their lead to 5-1 with another power-play goal by Joel Texmo at 5:23. Chicago fought back, with Caden Day finding the net at 6:27, assisted by Spencer Kauke, narrowing the gap to 5-2. Despite their efforts, the Crush couldn't overcome the deficit, and the game concluded with the Riverkings emerging victorious.
Penalties played a significant role in the game, with both teams accumulating minutes in the sin bin. The goaltenders, Jack Sundhall and Andrew Young for the Crush, and Jude Ayling for the Riverkings, showcased their skills despite the challenging circumstances.
The game featured a total of 82 shots on goal, with the Crush outshooting the Riverkings 49 to 33. Despite the loss, the Chicago Crush remains a formidable force in the league, with a season record of 19-7-2-0.
